Application Software
Industry Application Software (IAS)
From data to decisions — custom interfaces that speak your operational language.
Application-Specific Software & User Interfaces
Sintela develops tailored software and bespoke user interfaces layered on top of the Operating System Software (OSS). These interfaces are designed to present acquired data in clear, actionable formats that align with each user’s operational needs and concept of operations. The result is intuitive, application-specific visualisation that ensures critical insights are easy to understand and immediately usable—enabling faster, more effective decision-making.

Developed by Sintela’s global experts in Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing ONYX™ significantly improves performance and provides a future proof solution that can stand alone, integrate or be embedded into existing telecommunication and fiber systems.

Two fibers can be used for cut resilience and full dual redundancy
Features
Quantitative measurements | ONYX™ nano is a fully coherent, phase-based DAS system which enables the use of sophisticated event classification algorithms to achieve a low nuisance alarm rate.
Up to 20km range | one 20km ( or two depending on applications) fiber can be used simultaneously, monitored from a single ONYX™ nano.
Industry leading sensitivity | Capable of resolving an axial strain of 1.5 pico-strain using standard single-mode optical fiber.
Integrated compact design | All the optical sensing components, electronics and processing hardware have been incorporated into one compact unit.
Small form factor | Using only 1U of rack space and weighing less than 6kg, ONYX™ nano is easy to transport and once installed has a small footprint.
Low power requirement | ONYX™ nano operates on just 40W, enabling it to be powered from utility power or from harvested energy supplies.
Laser safe | ONYX™ nano uses a Class 1 laser making it eye safe and inherently safe to use.
GNSS time synchronisation | ONYX™ nano can synchronize its clock to the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) reference to ensure that highly accurate time stamped data is acquired and recorded.
Full software control | All the acquisition sensing parameters such as pulse width, gauge length, sample rate and decimation factor are software defined and can be quickly and easier changed to enable the optimum settings use in each deployment.
Industry leading algorithms | Based upon many decades’ worth of combined experience, the Sintela team has developed a suite of application-specific detection and classification algorithms—leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and heuristic techniques. These advanced technologies deliver unrivalled levels of detection performance while maintaining exceptionally low rates of nuisance alarms.
Web based user Interface | Each ONYX™ nano incorporates its own web server providing the user with remote web access to a modern user interface from any web browser on a secure intranet / internet connection.
Distributed architecture | ONYX™ nano has been designed around a fully distributed architecture eliminating single points-of-failure in multisystem networked deployments.
Automatic setup with fiber monitoring | An automated installation process simplifies the setup, commissioning and testing stages of the ONYX™ nano implementation.
Open architecture | ONYX™ nano is an open system meaning that a customer can load and operate their own software upon the ONYX™ nano hardware if they prefer.
Cyber Security | ONYX™ Sensing Unit are compliant with and tested against the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks for cyber security vulnerability.
Reliability | Calculated using Telcordia SR-332, the predicted Mean Time Before Failure (MBTF) of ONYX™ is 15 years.
Conformance | ONYX™ conforms with FCC, CE, and RoHS standards

Operating Software
Operating System Software (OSS)
Powering precision, enabling integration – the intelligent core of the ONYX™ Sensing Unit.
The OSS is responsible for the core firmware and software that controls the ONYX™ Sensing Unit (OSU). It manages real-time system operations, signal acquisition, data processing, and diagnostics. The software ensures the generation of high-quality, reliable data and supports seamless integration with third-party systems through robust, standards-based interfaces such as REST APIs, Modbus, and SNMP. Designed for performance and flexibility, the OSS enables efficient system configuration, monitoring, and remote management.

Full software control
Fully automated and optimized for each deployment with software defined acquisition sensing parameters such as pulse width, gauge length, sample rate and decimation factor.

Industry leading algorithms
Application specific detection and classification algorithms pre-loaded with hours of learning providing unrivalled levels of detection with low rates of nuisance alarm call outs.

Web based user Interface
Each ONYX™ unit incorporates its own web server providing the user with remote access from any browser on a secure intranet / internet connection. Full SAML integration for seamless integration into your organizations single source login.

Distributed architecture
ONYX™ has been designed around a fully distributed architecture eliminating single points-of-failure in multi-system networked deployments.

Auto setup with fiber monitoring
An automated installation process simplifies the setup, commissioning and testing stages of the ONYX™ implementation.

Open architecture
ONYX™ is an open system meaning that a customer can load and operate their own software upon the ONYX™ hardware if they prefer.
