A national oil company wanted to deliver sensing as a service through a single control centre. The client had a number of fiber optic distributed acoustic sensing systems from different vendors and wanted to have a single operational view of all their pipelines and the assets they were monitoring for other pipeline companies. The client had a high level of performance variation between vendor equipment and each required their own control units which increased complexity and cost to the customer.

The Sintela Solution

Sintela was tasked to deliver a control system that gave a single view of the customers own pipelines and the pipelines they were monitoring for other people. Sintela created a new set of software that enabled the customer to visualise all pipeline systems centrally and through a common alarming and management toolkit. Sintela enabled operational data to be delivered directly to management desks reducing the need for separate control systems and overhead. During the project Sintela implemented several new features requested by the customer to aid the operation of the pipeline and remove costs.

The Value Delivered

The solution enabled the customer to achieve more value from their existing fiber sensing systems by reducing the duplicated items from different vendors. The project reduced the operational cost of managing the systems by 50% and gave a scalable solution for adding in further pipeline monitoring without further increasing operational costs. Additionally the project delivered the key new features requested by the client enabling them to save 84% on selected operations.
